Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas 2014-DONE.
Christmas music over until November 1.
Decorations need to be repacked and stored.
Pounds that were found need to be lost.
Was it a perfect holiday season? Nope. People we love weren’t with us physically and were sorely missed. But, oh, how they are with us in our hearts and memories.
One of the hooligans wasn’t able to make it home for Christmas but technology made it possible for us to be “together” while opening gifts.
Not the same, to be sure, but we’re grateful to have had that.
Other things changed. My Dad always read the Biblical account of the Savior’s birth before gifts we opened gifts on Christmas Eve. We bought him a Bible for just such an occasion. After he passed away that was just one of the hard things about Christmas Eve.
The torch flickered but eventually has been passed amongst us. This year we found the passage online and one of our sons read it from a TV screen. Not the same, but he did a great job.
The same son and his fiance did a fabulous job of hosting Christmas Eve. They even had a hot chocolate table.
Many things are the same as other years though.
Way too much food.
Good natured teasing.
Family and friends.
I read a great comment on Facebook the other day. It advised not to compare our holiday celebrations with someone else’s. Very wise advice in my way of thinking.
